Letter on April 28th

Hey Everyone!

Another great week in Astoria! We have been doing a lot of finding
(mostly knocking) and saw a lot of miracles this week. Last Sunday we
were knocking and met Nahum, a 28 year old from Guatemala . Turns out
his dad's family was LDS and he remembered going to church with them
10 or so years ago. We gave him a Book of Mormon and he told us he's
been praying for something like this to happen to him. Super cool
experience. He is really interested and came to the YSA FHE with us
Friday.  We passed him over to the YSA sisters but I'm excited to
watch him progress!

Church this week was awesome. It's been fun to watch the missionaries
and members start uniting more.  We had 3 different members come up to
us at church to give us referrals. Without us even asking. It's crazy.
I was like is this real life?! I love our ward :D

We have an appointment with Kate this week- the nurse from the
Philipines.  I'm excited to look through my nursing books to help her
study for the NCLEX.  Its been a while and I'm feeling preeetttyy
rusty.  Its so cool to look back on the week and see how we have been
lead to people who are prepared to hear the gospel.  The Lord is so
involved in this work.  I feel so privilege that I get a front row
seat to watch the miracles that are happening here.  There really are
SO many. I love missionary work and being a missionary :D  Miss you
all so much!

Love, Sister Robertson

Letter on April 21st

Hey Everyone!

Happy Easter! So i survived my first week of training... barely.  Ha
just kidding! My new companion is Sister Board and she is awesome! She
is such a hardworker, I'm stoked :) I can tell we are going to have a
great 3 months together. She is from Kansas and is a twin. Also 4
members of her family will be serving missions together soon.  Crazy
huh?!

The work is going well.  Today a member invited us over to meet her
non member friend.  It was great.   Exciting to see ward members
involved in missionary work.  Also Friday we were able to have a
lesson with the whole Jiang family since the kids had spring break.
We taught them about the armor of god and had them put on cardboard
armor.  They LOVED it.  They were so cute.   We love the Jiangs.

Well I'm sorry to say I'm out of time but I'll write more next week.
Here are some pictures to make up for it :) Love you and miss you all!

Letter on April 14th

Hey Everyone!

This week is transfers and The Lord has called me to... BERMUDA! Can
you believe it? Just kidding... I'm sorry... I had to.  Really The
Lord has called me to train a new missionary so I'll be staying here
in Astoria.  I'm sad to Sister Joseph go but excited to introduce my
new companion to the mission.  Tomorrows a big day :)

We also had stake conference this week and as of yesterday we have a
new stake in the NYNYS mission.  Its super exciting! In 20 years 3
wards have become 2 stakes.  The Lord really is hastening his work.
The Saturday evening session was focused on missionary work and they
had a few people come up and share their conversion stories.  The
spirit was so strong and I feel so grateful that i get to participate
in the work here in New York.

So guess what else happened this week! I called a women that we had
contacted on the street a few weeks ago.  Her name is Kate, she is
phillipino and just had a baby.  We talked for a while, but when I
asked her if we could come stop by she told me probably not for at
least a month because she is SUPER busy.  So I asked what with and
guess what she said... taking the NCLEX.  Crazy Right? I guess she was
a nurse in the Philippines and failed the test already so she is super
nervous.  I was like well... I think i can help you with that haha.
I'm excited to go help her study this week :)

Anyways till next week.  I miss you all! XOXO

Letter on April 7th

Hey Everyone!

Ok first of all congrats Tom and Juli! I'm SOO excited for you guys.
I'm really glad it wasn't the April Fools joke I thought it was last
week :) I'm also glad Juli spared me of finding out on facebook.
Thanks Juli!! I can't believe its already Monday.  This week has FLOWN
by.  Wasn't conference awesome? Conference is like the Super Bowl for
missionaries.  We've been looking forward to it for weeks. Someone
forgot to unlock the chapel Saturday morning and it was super funny to
see all the missionaries starting to panic at noon because we were
going to miss the opening hymn.  Luckily we got into the chapel in
time to hear the first talk.  Phew... There may have been a riot if we
didn't haha.

I had some interesting experiences this week.  We spent a lot of the
week inviting people to come watch conference.  I talked to one man
for a little while and right after i invited him to conference he told
me,"I won't be here that long... I'm terminal" and before I could say
anything he ran off.  It was the STRANGEST thing.  I was so
confused/shocked I probably just stood there for a good 10 minutes
wondering what had happened.  I'm hoping he was kidding? It was
weird...and sad. On Saturday we had a member take all of us to a pub
in between conference sessions. The food was great but what I really
enjoyed was watching all 10 of us missionaries walk into a pub.
Pretty funny.

We taught Sister Jiang about the family proclamation this week.  I
love the family proclamation and man am I grateful for my family. The
gospel really does bless families and I'm so grateful for mine :) I
love you guys and miss you SO much! Xoxoxo

Letter on March 31st

Hey Everyone!

I can't believe another week has passed.  The mission is totally a
time warp, time flies.  I only have 2 more weeks of training left...
its crazy. This week was good. Its been fun to watch our ward become
more excited about missionary work.  We were able to set goals for the
wards missionary efforts with our bishopric this week.  Its the first
time that has ever happened so we are excited.  Its been great to
visit members and tell them about our goals.

Women's Conference was so great! We had a stake dinner before and two
of the less actives we've been working with came.  We also had one of
our investigators come and I think she really enjoyed it.  It was
crazy for me to see the audience at the conference center.  I'd
forgotten how diverse New York is.  Our audience definitely didn't
look like that.  On our row alone we had members from Brazil, China,
and the Philipines. We had headphones for translation in at least 5
different languages.  I've been told that the Queens stake is the most
diverse stake in the world so it was cool to realize that our little
stake center could have been filled with the most diverse group of
Women listening to Women's Conference. Pretty cool right?

The weathers been pretty crazy this week.  Lots of wind and rain.  So
heres a funny story.  We were on the bus the other day and
accidentally pushed the stop button a stop early.  When no one got off
the bus our bus driver turn backed and started yelling and asking what
happened.  We told him what happened and apologized but when we pushed
the button to stop later he just kept driving, right past the
stop...and he didn't stop for a WHILE. It was pretty funny...
apparently he was mad- he definitely got his revenge.

Well till next week! Miss You!
Sister Robertson
